Life as detective Alex Mendez knew it came to an abrupt end two years ago with the murder of his wife. Now he is raising his teenage daughter alone. The demands of his job and the fact that his wife’s case remains unsolved have been a strain on both of them, but now a new case threatens not only what’s left of their fragile relationship, but their very lives.

When three local women are brutally raped, the case consumes Alex. His daughter, feeling abandoned, unknowingly befriends a looming shadow from Alex’s past.

DNA evidence found on the first two victims leads Alex to his suspect. It looks like an open and shut case until DNA from the third victim is matched to Alex. Now, to clear his name he must face the demons from his past and reveal a long kept secret that could disprove the evidence against him, but doing so would not only devastate his daughter, it could destroy them both.

IRREFUTABLE a Crime Thriller edition by Dale Roberts Romance eBooks

IRREFUTABLE was my first exposure to Dale Roberts's writing. I'm a fan of thrillers and police procedural novels and the book description intrigued me. I found much to like about the storytelling and much to dislike as well, so the book rates a solid 3 stars in my opinion.

NEGATIVES:
* Some significant story elements disappeared...and would've been a powerful player. Without giving too much away, what about the firefighter's case? Will he see justice? Also...it's implied wife's death may have had something to do with *this* case...but it's never evaluated nor properly addressed.
* Very shallow point of view: We're in Alex's head and know he had what he calls 'an affair' after his wife's death...but when it's revealed *who* the 'affair' was with, it's a rip off. The reader should've known at least a hint more far earlier than that bomb was dropped.
* Chronic use of weak verbs, abundant misuse of grammar (dialogue excluded), etc.

POSITIVES:
* The ending had some serious tension as everything unfolded
* Apparently the police procedural elements and DNA testing elements are accurate--the author did his research
* I enjoyed it enough to finish it.

IRREFUTABLE a Crime Thriller edition by Dale Roberts Romance eBooks Reviews

Hard to put it down. I had to read more when I couldn't sleep at night. I'd recommend it to all my friends.
Thank you.
I never would have guessed who turned out to be the rapist. Very interesting and absorbing. I read it in one sitting.
Irrefutable is a light, quick, easy read but offers nothing special.

Our heroic detective struggles to cope with the murder of his wife (2 years ago), being a single father to a teenage daughter, and to somehow overlook his feelings for the ADA who clearly has her eyes on him.

The big "twist" was obvious to me no more than halfway through the book.

This isn't a bad book, but there are certainly many better things to read.
This one took me a while to get into. I actually put it down and left it for a couple of months and then picked it back up and finished it. It is a little rough to start, but I urge you to stick with it, it does pick up and has a nice twist for a story line. Characters are okay, but the villian is portrayed a little ham-handed for my taste. People who outwardly show mental instability are not ususally so well tolerated in my experience, especially by children. But the overall story is well done, and the main characters are well developed. Plan to slog a bit and then get into a good book.
I enjoyed the story and the characters. It was fast paced and held my interest. The editing needed some work but I was able to ignore most of the problems there.

There were some inconsistencies that were harder to ignore and kept this from being a 5 star book, in my opinion. I find it unlikely that the defense attorney chosen would be 3 months out of law school--could one even take and pass the bar exam that quickly?--and that this was the only defense attorney that could be found for such a high profile case that no one really believed Alex could have committed. And the department leak who caused so much trouble didn't seem to face any repercussions in the end which I thought was pretty unbelievable.

Overall I enjoyed the plot, but those problems I mentioned and a couple others almost seem to be due to the author's haste to wrap up the story.
It's a shame the lack of editing in this book. Many words were left out, but the punctuation (what was there, and what wasn't there) was absolutely atrocious throughout the book. If the story line hadn't been decent, I never would have finished reading it.
However, if it had been edited, or correctly edited, I would have rated the full 5-stars without hesitation. Unfortunately, I have to give it 3-stars, and that's only because the story itself has potential of being very good..It would benefit the author to consider pulling the book, hiring someone who knows the English language and the rules of punctuation to fix the numerous errors, and then republishing it.
I enjoyed the story, it was well-written and suspenseful with nice surprises. The only real drawback involved the spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors. Enough of them to make it obvious and to break the flow of the story. I thought the use of "bazaar theories" could just be an overlooked accident, but "bazaar" was used more than once instead of the obviously meant "bizarre". The main character at one point mused that he was "a looser". And several sentences that were not questions ended in question marks. This is just a pet peeve since many books lately seem to have very poor editing/proofreading so it is frustrating to try to get through one without ridiculous errors that should have easily been caught. I would have failed any paper submitted in high school with so many glaring errors.
